Coronavirus Diary 7

Global cases: 243K 😬 US cases: 14,250 … up 75% in a day??? 😬 California has just issued an order for everyone to stay at home. So any ā€œnon-essentialā€ businesses will have no customers, and will have to close for as long as the order lasts. The amount of damage this will do to the economy is terrifying. There’s a good chance it will happen in WA too. So these restaurants, small businesses, everybody who is trying to survive doing the takeout thing, could be fucked....

Coronavirus Diary 6?

2 days since the last entry. Crazy work schedule trying to get some covid-19 work out the door. Global cases 218K, US cases 9,379! 😬 I stopped by Bent Bine brewery today. They are selling cans and bottles to go, and pretty much in good spirits. But who knows how long this shit will last. If people have to ā€œshelter in placeā€, small businesses are fucked. The economy is already pretty fucked....

Coronavirus Diary 2

World cases up to 156,000 and US up to 2500. Work has been nuts just trying to develop quick solutions to make hospital staff’s lives easier…will be working for the 2nd Sunday in a row tomorrow. I feel pretty good, except chest feels tight. Hurts when I inhale fully, but I don’t feel like my lung capacity is diminished. They are dry. No fever. Is it stress? Really hoping I don’t get it, but then I just realized, maybe it’s best to just get it over with....

Coronavirus Diary 1

Wow. Now up to 145,000 worldwide cases. Restaurants are closing (The Brooklyn, and Arriba down the street–permanently). The number of US cases has doubled in the last 2 days. I’ve been pretty isolated since Tuesday night. Yesterday I felt like šŸ’©, but got lots of sleep and felt pretty good today. No fever, lungs are dry. I plan to stay away from people for the next week or so. It’s rough doing that!...

Coronavirus Diary 0

I remember looking at the GIS site back when there were 6,000 cases or something—a little over a month ago. Now it’s up to 128,000. Due to poor execution on my part, I didn’t divest my IRA like I planned to. I had actually started the process with the lame financial advisors, but they said I needed to fill out some forms to get it done, and also told me not to get ā€œspookedā€ due to the coronavirus....

Visualizing SQL Azure Performance

I love the feeling that comes from seeing data in a new way. A way that says, ā€œhow did I get by before this?ā€ One of those moments came recently after going beta with our internal SQL Azure monitoring tool. Using a hosted database platform is wonderful and terrifying. Most of the time it works like a dream, and a huge bonus is that I don’t have to think about hardware....
