I remember looking at the GIS site back when there were 6,000 cases or something—a little over a month ago. Now it’s up to 128,000. Due to poor execution on my part, I didn’t divest my IRA like I planned to. I had actually started the process with the lame financial advisors, but they said I needed to fill out some forms to get it done, and also told me not to get “spooked” due to the coronavirus. That effort seemed large, and the market got crazy right around then, so I decided not to sell. So it’s down maybe 25%. However, I did sell almost all my 401k in January, so it’s not a total loss.
It’s been 7 days since Ellie’s school closed, and we are heading into 6 more weeks of closure, mandated by the state. Restaurants are closing left and right. Some permanently, some temporarily. I’ve felt a little sick today, and don’t want to go out at all, even though I’d love to patronize some of these businesses.
Everybody is acting differently. The park was pretty busy today, with warm weather, and it was great to see others. But I was careful to keep my distance. This is in contrast to 48 hours ago, when I went to a concert on Capitol Hill. Amber said it was my “last hurrah” before social isolation, so I decided to go. People were basically unconcerned, dancing close, being in a tiny space together. I hope going there wasn’t a big mistake.
